In an official statement.. Real Madrid announces that Ancelotti suffered a serious setback before the Super Cup
Real Madrid held their last training session this morning in Valdebebas before traveling to Riyadh to face Valencia this Wednesday in the Super Cup semi-finals, at 8:00pm.
The bad news is that David Alaba and Aurelien Tchoamene are not included in the squad for the trip to Saudi Arabia. The club issued two statements to report the first injury to the right sole and the second to the left sole. Both will be about three weeks away from the field.
The good news is that Carvajal and Mariano joined the group action and will attend the meeting against Gattuso’s team, while Odriozola is still out of the team due to injury.
Carvajal suffered in the first match after the Christmas break against Valladolid and did not arrive in time for last Saturday’s game against Villarreal at La Ceramica due to his discomfort.
Carvajal’s return was a relief for Ancelotti, who put Militao in the last league game in that position and left his natural replacement, Lucas Vazquez, on the bench. Odriozola suffered a muscle injury in the cup match against Caserinho, while Mariano recovered from a sprained ankle.
The loss of Tchoamini and Alaba is a serious setback for the Italian coach. The midfielder is usually a regular in the line-up and is likely to be one of the first to pay the price of World Cup fatigue after reaching the final with France. Alaba is the main center of defense this season, although he did not participate in the World Cup in Qatar.
