Liverpool submits an official complaint to UEFA against Real Madrid

Liverpool is not satisfied with the distribution of tickets allocated to them by Real Madrid for the second leg match of the round of 16 of the Champions League, which will be held on March 15, 2023 at the Santiago Bernabeu (the first leg will be on February 21 at Anfield).

The British newspaper, The Athletic, reported that the English club had contacted UEFA, as well as Real Madrid itself, to complain about the few tickets it received from the white club.

Specifically, according to information from the British newspaper, Madrid gave Liverpool 1,800 tickets for the match, while there should be no less than 3,000 tickets.

In UEFA competitions, protocol states that each team will hold at least 5% of the tickets available to visiting fans; This number can be higher if the home team wishes, but never lower.

In the case of the Bernabéu, 5% before the start of the stadium renovation works would have occupied about 4,000 seats. But for now the stadium’s seating capacity has shrunk to just over 60,000, and it changes depending on how the reform evolves.

With those numbers, 5% should mean 3,000 tickets. But according to Liverpool, he’s got fewer than that.

We are more than three months away from the match, so there is no final situation and an agreement can be expected in this regard. In the case of Anfield, which has a capacity of about 53,000 spectators, Real Madrid will receive 2,600 tickets from the “red” team, although it remains to be seen if they will fill all these tickets or return some of them. In the event of an important competitor such as Liverpool and the Champions League last 16, it is expected to run out.
