Spanish report reveals what Ancelotti said to the player who caused Real Madrid’s defeat against Villarreal
The Real Madrid game was very bad from the first minute and at all times they found themselves in front of a great advantage for Quique Setien’s men. Villarreal imposed their style of play and were the clear dominant, but two details should not be overlooked either: Soto Grado’s refereeing performance and the chances missed by Ancelotti’s men.
Real Madrid lost 2-1, but a sense of danger arose and they just had to materialize some of the chances they had at La Ceramica. They are shipwrecked against the Yellow Submarine and once again leave Barcelona top if they beat Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano.
Carlo Ancelotti highlighted in a press conference the defensive problems Real Madrid faced at La Ceramica against Villarreal. “It was not a great match from our side, especially from a defensive point of view,” the Italian coach said. At the end of it, he wanted to chat one-on-one with a specific player.
It was Ferland Mendy who the coach had to talk to privately after missing out on Villarreal’s first goal and he ended up being very mentally affected by what he experienced at La Ceramica. Ancelotti had a short conversation with the French full-back and the motto was very clear: “I don’t want this,” referring to his defensive mistakes.
Ancelotti told Ferland Mendy after the defeat by Villarreal: “I don’t want you to be affected by the barrage of criticism that will rain on you. I trust you, don’t worry, don’t read or listen to anything, you are important to Real Madrid and that’s what matters.
Mendy apologized to his team mates and took the blame for that mistake that made the first goal possible for the Yellow Submarines and that made the Whites struggle the entire second half.
